Long Balls Doom M-Braves in Montgomery

Brett, Argo homer for Biscuits to send M-Braves to third straight loss
June 3, 2014

Montgomery, AL - Two swings spelled the difference on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium as the Mississippi Braves fell 5-1 to the Montgomery Biscuits for their third straight loss.

With two on and two out in the second, Biscuits (30-28) second baseman Ryan Brett sent a payoff pitch over the left field wall for a 3-0 Montgomery lead. It was his fourth home run of the season. An inning later, Willie Argo hit a one-out two-run shot of his own to make it 5-0.

Both round trippers came off Braves starter JR Graham (0-3) who suffered the loss, allowing five earned on nine hits over four innings, striking out four without issuing a walk.

Meanwhile the Braves were mostly muted by Biscuits starter Dylan Floro (5-5), who allowed just a run over 7 2/3 innings in the win. Matt Ramsey came on to pick up his first save of the year, pitching the final four outs on just a hit.

The Braves (32-25) got on the board in the eighth. Elmer Reyes led off with a single, Emerson Landoni doubled to left-center and right fielder David Rohm hit an infield single toward short to pull the score to 5-1.

In relief for the Braves, Terry Doyle pitched three scoreless innings on one hit in his M-Braves debut, and Chasen Shreve added a perfect relief frame as well.

With the loss, the M-Braves drop the series, their first series loss since dropping four of five games from April 19-23 at Montgomery. The loss snaps a streak of seven consecutive series won.

It's also the first time the Braves have lost three consecutive games since dropping five straight from April 17-21-two games to Huntsville and three straight to Montgomery.

With the Chattanooga Lookouts extra inning 7-6 win over the Mobile BayBears, the M-Braves stay two games behind the BayBears in the South Division race with 12 games remaining in the first half.

The Braves will try to get back to their winning ways in Tuesday's fourth of a five-game series, sending right-hander Mitch Atkins to the hill in his M-Braves 2014 debut against right-hander Roberto Gomez (1-3, 5.91). First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM CT.
