Schlosser Named Pitcher of the Week

M-Braves receive distinguished honor for the second straight week

PEARL, MS  --  Gus Schlosser was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 29 through May 5, becoming the second Mississippi Braves pitcher to receive the honor in the past two weeks. Schlosser made two starts for the M-Braves last week, picking up wins in both contests.

 

The 24-year-old right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA in six starts for the Double-A Braves this season. During the past week, Schlosser is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. He's given up just one earned run in 13 innings pitched while striking out 12 batters and limiting opponents to a .182 batting average.

 

A native of Sarasota, FL, Schlosser was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 17th round of the 2011 draft out of Florida Southern College. He was a second team All-Sunshine State Conference selection and was named to the 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove South Region team.

 

Schlosser made his professional debut with the Danville Braves. He gave up just one hit in two games before moving up to Low-A Rome. With the Rome Braves, Schlosser went 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 19 appearances. He struck out 34 in 29.2 innings of work.

 

After spending the entire 2012 season with High-A Lynchburg, Schlosser was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Year. He posted a record of 13-7 with a 3.38 ERA. His ERA ranked third in the Carolina League and fourth in the Atlanta Braves farm system. Schlosser led both the league and the organization in wins and ranked second in both with 139 strikeouts.

 

The Mississippi Braves (19-11) have won 16 of its last 19 games and currently lead the Southern League South Division by a game and a half over the Jacksonville Suns (16-11).
