BATAVIA, NY - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers continue through Pinckney Division play with an end-of-week series in Batavia versus the Muckdogs. The Scrappers (28-15) hold a 5.0 game lead over the Auburn Doubledays for the divsion lead. They lead Batavia (19-25) by 9.5 games. The Muckdogs sit 5.0 games behind Staten Island for the league's wild card spot.

Batavia's roster features one of the league's top power threats in 1B Sean Reynolds. His nine home runs lead the New York-Penn League, and his 29 RBI are second-most. Reynolds also leads the league in three other prominent categories - runs scored, walks and strikeouts. His 34 runs scored lead Mahoning Valley's Tyler Freeman by five. His 77 recorded strikeouts are 14 more than the next qualifier. Meanwhile, his 30 walks drawn pace the league leaders by five. Reynolds checks in with a .209 batting average and a .799 OPS.
Mahoning Valley's Tyler Freeman extended his hitting streak to 14 games on Wednesday versus Williamsport. It is his second hitting streak of at least 13 games this season (June 18 - July 2). His 4-for-5 night included four RBI, and he finished a home run shy of the cycle. Freeman is leading the league in seven major offensive categories: batting average (.385), slugging percentage (.559), OPS (.992), hits (62), doubles (16), RBI (30), and total bases (90). He is also second in the league in runs scored (29) and on-base percentage (.433). Despite this, Freeman has not won an award for the league's Hitter of the Week this season.
Scrappers 3B Henry Pujols is on a four-game hitting streak, logging at least two hits in each game versus Williamsport. He hit .667 (8-for-12) with a home run, three doubles and five RBI in three games versus the Crosscutters. He is batting .419 in his previous ten games and has raised his batting average from .143 on July 19 to .228 entering Thurday.
