*GWINNETT COUNTY, Georgia – * The Memphis Redbirds dropped the series finale at the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate, Atlanta Braves), 5-0, on a sunny Sunday at Coolray Field. After an off day on Monday, the ‘Birds return home to AutoZone Park to start a 12-game homestand on Tuesday.

Early on, the game was dominated by starting pitching. Angel Rondón allowed just one unearned run in his four-inning start for the Redbirds (9-15), while Kyle Wright countered with six scoreless innings for the Stripers (14-10) while scattering six Memphis hits. Wright stranded five Redbirds runners on base in his outing.

The Stripers’ starting right fielder had three total hits in the series, all extra-base hits (two doubles and a home run). Demeritte also drove in the Stripers’ first run of the game via an RBI groundout in the first inning.

The home team put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and a lone run in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Goins had a two-run double in the seventh, and Abraham Almonte lined a home run to dead center field in the eighth.

Conner Capel had a two-hit day for Memphis, including a double deep into the right field corner in the second inning. The Texas native scored three of the Redbirds’ eight runs in their win on Saturday night.
