NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds scored early and often on Tuesday night, plating 18 runs on 20 hits on their way to a resounding 18-6 win over the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate, Milwaukee Brewers) at First Horizon Park.

The fun for the ‘Birds (2-5) began in the first, when José Rondón doubled and John Nogowski singled to give Memphis an early 2-0 lead. Nashville (3-2) briefly bounced back to take a 3-2 lead after the first, but the lead didn’t last. The Redbirds scored four runs each in the second and third innings to blow the game wide open, tacking on three more runs in the fifth and five in the ninth for good measure.

Rondón homered in the second, his fourth of the young season. Coupled with his double in the first and an RBI single in the ninth, he now has 12 RBIs in seven games this season.

Max Moroff and Scott Hurst provided fireworks of their own in the ballgame. Moroff homered twice and drove in five runs in a 4-6 night at the plate. He’s currently slashing .542/.621/1.042 this season with eight total runs driven in. Hurst went 3-5 with a triple and 4 RBIs. The native Californian has reached base in all seven games this season.

The hitting numbers for the Redbirds on Tuesday night were truly eye-popping. Every single starting position player had a hit, with six players racking up multiple hits. Memphis pounded out eight extra-base hits and seven different players scored at least one run. The team had scored 23 total runs in its season-opening series with the Durham Bulls last week.

Miles Mikolas made his second rehab start with Memphis on Tuesday night, allowing three runs (all earned) in 4.0 innings pitched with five strikeouts and no walks. After allowing three runs in a shaky first inning, Mikolas settled into a groove, allowing just two total hits in his next three innings of work.
