LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Memphis Redbirds dropped an extra-inning affair 4-3 to the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday night. The game lasted 11 innings, with the Stripers walking off the Redbirds on a throwing error.

After escaping the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, Memphis and Gwinnett were unable to score in the 10th. In the 11th, Ben DeLuzio doubled in the ghost runner at second to put Memphis up 3-2, but the Redbirds could not hang on in the bottom half of the frame. Freddy Pacheco (1-2) had a throwing error and then walked two batters, the second of which was with the bases loaded, tying the game. Zach McAllister came in with two-outs in the inning and could not field a ding-single from Delino DeShields Jr., resulting in the winning run crossing.

The scoring started early as Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead two batters into the ballgame, with Taylor Motter doubling home a run. Hendrick Clementina tallied an RBI in the second after Ryan Casteel led off the frame with a double. Memphis starter Garrett Williams settled in after that to retire five of the final six he faced.

After a pair of singles put two on to start the third inning, Kramer Robertson lined a double down the left field line that scored both runners and tied the game.

Seven Memphis pitchers held Gwinnett scoreless over 8.2 frames following the second inning until the 11th. Johan Quezada struck out four of the six batters he faced, while the Redbirds totaled 16 strikeouts on the night.

The Memphis Redbirds (58-52) take on the Gwinnett Stripers (53-58) for game two of this six-game series. LHP Connor Thomas is scheduled to start opposite RHP Huascar Ynoa for the Stripers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT at Coolray Field.
