'Hounds Can't Complete Comeback

"Opportunities missed" was the storyline for the RockHounds in a 5-4 loss to the Missions Tuesday night at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio
The RockHounds had scoring chances in each of the first three innings … and loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth … but scored a total of just one run in those four innings.
San Antonio, on the other hand, scored single runs in the first and third innings, then built their lead to 4-0 on Michael Gettys' two-run home run in the fourth.
The 'Hounds rallied back to within 4-3 on Seth Brown's two-run double in the sixth and J.P. Sportman's seventh-inning RBI opposite field single. The Missions then added what would be the game-winner in the home half of the seventh on Ty France's second ribbie of the game.
The RockHounds loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth but scored only a single run (on Richie Martin's ground out), once again drawing to within a run at 5-4 (and with runners at second and third with one out) but could not bring the tying run across.
San Antonio (36-21) holds on to its two-game lead over Corpus Christi (34-23) with 13 games remaining in the first half pennant race.
Notables
Seth Brown (3-for-4, double, two RBI) has reached base in 19-of-20 games (.321) and in 30-of-33 (.331, with 10 doubles, one triple, five HR and 30 RBI in the 33 games). In his last two games, the RockHounds first baseman is 6-for-8 with three doubles, a home run and five runs batted in.
J.P. Sportman (2-for-4, double, RBI, stolen base) has reached base in eight straight games (.467) … 15-of-16 (.394) … and in 21-of-his-last-23 games, hitting .376, with 16 runs, 16 RBI and 11 stolen bases over the 23-game stretch.
Tyler Marincov (1-for-4, run, stolen base) has reached base in seven straight games (.367) with a double, five HR and 12 RBI.
Eli White (0-2, run, two walks) has reached base in 12 straight games (.362) with five doubles, one triple, two HR and eight RBI.
Brett Vertigan (0-4, walk) has reached base in 12 straight games (.288) … 24-of-26 (.259) and in 39-of-his-last-42 games (.258).
Richie Martin (0-for-4, RBI) was kept off base for the first time in 13 games (.449) and for just the second time in his last 29 (.378).
