'Hounds Win Despite Interruptions

Momentum Bank Ballpark

The RockHounds (Matamoscas de Midessa) were interrupted once … and almost twice … on their way to an 8-6 win over the Frisco RoughRiders Friday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Trailing, 2-1, going into the home half of the fourth, the RockHounds broke out with a six-run inning, sending 11 batters to the plate in the process. But it took a while, thanks to Mother Nature.

Logan Davidson and Jeremy Eierman drew back-to-back walks to open the inning and Kyle McCann’s line drive single to center field loaded the bases. Mickey McDonald singled to left-center, tying the game at 2-2, and the ‘Hounds had just taken a 3-2 lead (on a wild pitch) when rain (and lightning nearby) forced the players off the field.

After the delay, Frisco threatened to halt the rally, getting two outs (one on a brilliant play by shortstop Derwin Barreto) with the score holding at 3-2.* Devin Foyle* (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) then drove in his second run of the game with a sharp single to center and Tyler Ramirez followed with line drive single to push the lead to 5-2. After Jonah Bride reached on an infield single, Davidson (who had opened the inning with a walk) flared a two-run double down the left field line to cap the six-run, storm-delayed, frame.

After the ‘Hounds scratched out a run in the seventh, building the lead to 8-2, Frisco loaded the bases with two out in the top of the ninth. With one swing, Bubba Thompson cut the lead to 8-6, lifting a grand slam home run to right field.

Austin Briggs then struck out J.P. Martinez to avoid any furth “interruptions” and seal the win.

The victory for the Matamocas de Midessa came on the first of four Copa de la Diversión nights at Momentum Bank Ballpark in 2021.

Kibbles & Bits

Devin Foyle went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI. While playing in just 10 (of the Rockhounds’ 22) games, Devin is hitting .342 (13-for-38) and his 11 RBI are tied for third on the team.
