Momentum Bank Ballpark

Cole Winn is among the top prospects in the Texas Rangers organization and a crowd of nearly four thousand (3,888) got a firsthand look Thursday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark as the Frisco RoughRiders defeated the RockHounds, 3-1

Winn went six scoreless … and no-hit … innings, despite (probably) not having his best “stuff.” The right-hander walked three batters (two in the first inning) while striking out six to earn his first win at the Double-A level (see “kibbles & Bits,” below).

While Frisco dominated the game, out-hitting the RockHounds, 12-3, the RoughRiders had to piece together their offense. Frisco put single runs on the board in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, scoring on a wild pitch … a “throw elsewhere” (on a rundown) … and one RBI single.

The RockHounds broke the no-hit bid when Logan Davidson ripped a single to right-center to open the seventh against Noah Bremer. The ‘Hounds got on the board, also piece-by-piece (a hit batsman, two wild pitches and a fielder’s choice) in the ninth.

The biggest moment in the game actually came in the eighth inning, when opposite field hits from Devin Foyle (single) and Mickey McDonald (double) gave the ‘Hounds runners at second and third with just one out. Bremer responded with back-to-back strikeouts to escape the jam when a base hit would likely have made the score 3-2 going into the ninth.

The RoughRiders improved to a league-best 14-6 to open the season and lead the six-game series, 2-1. The clubs meet Friday and Saturday evenings (7:00) before wrapping up the set with a Sunday matinee (2:00).

Kibbles & Bits

The first three games of the series have been decided by a combined total of four runs, with two of the three going to extra innings.

The start was just the 22nd as a pro for the Colorado native Cole Winn, who was selected by the Rangers in the first round (15th overall) of the 2018 draft out of Orange (CA) Lutheran High School.
