The game was almost half over and the RockHounds were leading, 2-0, when Frisco did some “recycling.”

With the bases empty and two out, four consecutive batters combined for a team cycle, erasing the 2-0 deficit, and putting Frisco on top, 3-2. The RoughRiders added three insurance runs and went on to defeat the RockHounds, 6-2, Friday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

J.P. Martinez started the rally with a triple to right-center field and Matt Whatley homered to left on the next pitch, tying the game at 2-2.Bubba Thompson rekindled the rally with a double into the left field corner and Davis Wendzel finished the rally (and completed the team “cycle”) with an RBI single to left field for a 3-2 Frisco lead.

The RoughRiders added a run without the benefit of a base hit in the sixth (a hit batsman, a walk, and a wild pitch) and built the margin to 6-2 with RBI singles from Dio Arias and Blain Crim in the seventh.

The RockHounds took an early lead in the second inning on back-to-back two-out singles from Kyle McCann and Elvis Peralta and a two-run double off the bat of Max Schuemann (see “Kibbles & Bits,” below).

For the second consecutive night, the RoughRiders got contributions from virtually the entire line-up - - every Frisco batter reached base at least once with six either scoring a run, driving in a run, or both. Thompson led the way, going 4-for-4 (with a double and a sacrifice bunt).

Kibbles & Bits

Max Schuemann extended his on-base streak to 26 games, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, and driving in both RockHounds runs.

The “quantity” of the streak is impressive, to begin with, and the “quality” is equally (or even more) remarkable.

In the 26-gamer, Max is hitting .421 (45-for-107) with an on-base percentage of .492.

He has hits in 24 of the 26 games and now has a .340 average in 44 games with the RockHounds … after hitting .224 in 54 games with (High-A) Lansing to open the season.

Max was called up to the RockHounds on July 13 when Jeremy Eierman was placed on the Injured List.
