2010 Harrisburg Senators Set Numerous Attendance Records

Fans flock to new Metro Bank Park in record numbers
August 31, 2010
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators had the kind of season minor league franchises can only dream about. A brand new ballpark, a phenom to open the season, the league All-Star game, and an end-of-season playoff push, all of which pushed the Senators attendance to heights not seen before on City Island.

For the record, the Senators drew an all-time high 294,325 fans to Metro Bank Park. They broke the single-season attendance record on Friday night when 12-year-old Xavier Briel of Mechanicsburg came through the gate and became the 279,692nd fan through the gates this season.

Along with the single season attendance record, the Senators also drew their four biggest regular season crowds this season, not counting the Eastern League All-Star game. They had nine games considered sellouts (over 6,102), set their four-game series record and set the record for the largest two-game attendance as well. Listed below are the all-time top 10 attended games as well as other numbers of note. The Senators also experienced an 18% growth in attendance over 2009, one of only two Eastern League teams to experience a per-game increase over 2009.

"This has been a tremendous season for everybody involved in Senators baseball," said Kevin Kulp, Senators' President. "On behalf of Senators Partners, LLC the Senators Staff and the Senators players we'd like to thank the fans for making 2010 a very special season. We will continue to work hard to build the entertainment value for our fans."

Listed here are the all-time top 10 crowds with this year's games in bold:

1. 7,907 on 8/28/10 vs. Trenton
2. 7,887 on 4/16/10 vs. New Britain
3. 7,639 on 8/27/10 vs. Trenton
4. 7,619 on 5/2/10 vs. Altoona
5. 7,165 on 7/4/09 vs. Akron
6. 6,887 on 7/31/10 vs. Portland
7. 6,737 on 8/29/98 vs. Bowie
8. 6,692 on 8/22/00 vs. Reading
9. 6,676 on 5/30/98 vs. Bowie
10. 6,674 on 8/28/99 vs. Reading

In addition to the single-game records, this past weekend against Trenton (8/26-8/29) the Senators drew 25,504 fans for their largest weekend ever. On Friday and Saturday, they combined to draw 15,546, which are the largest back-to-back games ever.

The crowning achievement to the 2010 season was the 2010 Eastern League All-Star game in which the Senators drew the largest crowd ever to a baseball game on City Island, 8,078. Because of the All-Star game, and having Stephen Strasburg on the roster for the first month, the Senators garnered regional and national attention for the new Metro Bank Park.

The 2010 regular season home schedule has ended, but the Senators are playing on the road and still in a fight for a playoff spot in the 2010 Eastern League playoffs. The Sens are currently in the lead for the final spot and if they make the playoffs, will have at least one home game on Friday, September 10th at 7:00pm. Tickets to that game, and any potential home post-season game, are on sale now through the Senators box office in person or by calling 231-4444 option 2 from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday or online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
