66ers Fall to JetHawks 5-3

San Bernardino, CA- Entering the ninth inning with the score tied at three The Lancaster JetHawks (47-80, 19-39) rallied for two runs off of 66ers reliever Kevin Johnson to get the victory over the Inland Empire 66ers (61-65, 29-27) 5-3. Jio Mier broke the tie with the go ahead RBI single for Lancaster in the ninth inning at Arrowhead Credit Union Park Tuesday night.

Randal Grichuk made his Inland Empire debut going 1-for-4 with a double in the losing cause. Kole Calhoun extended his streak to 37 straight games reaching base also going 1-for-4. The Sixers scored all three runs with two outs in the second inning starting with a Steven Irvine triple that was lost in the lights by Lancaster right fielder Andy Simunic.

On the mound starter Max Russell pitched six strong innings allowing three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and zero walks. Errors would be the difference in the game for Inland Empire. Adam Younger made two errors leading to two unearned runs for Lancaster, including one in the ninth inning.

A.J. Schugel (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will take the hill for Inland Empire in game two of the three game series Wednesday night opposite Wes Musick (2-5, 5.03 ERA) and Lancaster. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians pregame show at 6:55 on KCAA AM 1050.
