66ers Slam Quakes, 15-8

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers (51-58, 20-19) exploded offensively, dominating the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes pitching staff (52-57, 15-24) in a 15-8 victory. 66ers right fielder Randal Grichuk hit a grand slam in the 7th inning. Grichuk's multi-homer game had him go 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Grichuk now has 14 homers and 56 RBIs on the year.
"I've started to take batting practice very seriously and it has helped a lot," said Grichuk. "I've been cutting down my swing and seeing more pitches so that I can hit them out."
The 66ers offense go off to a big start as 66ers second baseman Taylor Lindsey hit a solo home run in the 1st inning to give Inland Empire an early 1-0 lead. Lindsey had a very nice day offensively as he went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs of his own. California League RBI leader C.J. Cron added to his total as he hit a solo shot leading off the 4th inning to give him a professional baseball leading 102 RBIs on the year.
66ers starter Fabio Martinez struggled and was yanked early in another outing as he posted a bizarre stat line going 2 1/3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on one hit, striking out four and walking five for the no decision. 66ers reliever pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up 1 earned run to earn the win and improve to 2-0. Quakes reliever Steve Smith was charged with the loss to fall to 3-2.
The 66ers will go for the sweep on the road against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tomorrow at 7:00 pm.
