Sea Dogs Win Penultimate Game in Grand Fashion

Hartford, Connecticut – The Portland Sea Dogs won their third-consecutive game with a 12-5 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats on Saturday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Triston Casas and Devlin Granberg each hit home runs in the game while Rio Gomez recorded his first Double-A win.

Devlin Granberg finished the night four-for-five with two doubles and a grand slam. He drove home five runs and scored two. Casas connected for his 13th home run of the year, his fourth long ball at Dunkin’ Donuts Park this season.

Rio Gomez was awarded the win, tossing 1.0 inning allowing one run on two hits. Until tonight, Gomez had not allowed a run since July 8th and had tossed 24.0 innings with 27 strikeouts.

The Yard Goats took the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after back-to-back RBI singles by Casey Golden and Willie MacIver.

Jeisson Rosario ripped an RBI double to right field in the second inning to put the Sea Dogs on the board, 2-1.

With Pedro Castellanos at first base, Triston Casas crushed a two-run home run in the top of the third inning and the Sea Dogs took the 3-2 lead.

Portland extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Fitzgerald roped a two-run double down the right field line and the Sea Dogs continued to lead, 5-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Coco Montes doubled to left field then scored on an RBI double by Michael Toglia. Willie MacIver then hit a sacrifice fly to right field and the Yard Goats continued to trail, 5-4.

The Sea Dogs would then plate five more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Tyreque Reed was hit by a pitch then Grant Williams singled to right field. Pedro Castellanos then drew a walk to load the bases. Casas then drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Reed and Portland led, 6-4. Devlin Granberg then demolished a grand slam to the second-deck in right field and the Sea Dogs led, 10-4. It was Granberg’s first grand slam of the season and 10th home run of the year.

After a leadoff double by Jose Gomez, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Montes and the Yard Goats continued to trail, 10-5 in the sixth inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Castellanos led off with a double to left field then Casas drew a walk. Granberg doubled home Castellanos and the Sea Dogs led, 11-5. Casas came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Fitzgerald and Portland held on to the 12-5 victory.

The Sea Dogs and Yard Goats wrap up the 2021 season tomorrow, Sunday, September 19th at 1:05pm. RHP Victor Santos (4-1, 2.49 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while Hartford is TBA.
