Aces, Bisons dominating All-Star voting

Reno fans, it appears, won't entirely get their way -- the Pacific Coast League squad may include some non-Aces when it finally takes the field in Buffalo next month.

After three weeks, the PCL's team is dominated by D-backs prospects, with Reno third baseman Ryan Wheeler, starter Trevor Bauer, shortstop Taylor Harbin, second baseman Jake Elmore, outfielder Adam Eaton and reliever Jonathan Albaladejo all currently leading at their respective positions in fan voting.

Iowa first baseman Anthony Rizzo holds a strong edge at first base for the PCL teams, but if the Cubs' top prospect is called up within the next month, guess who is in line to start at first? Reno's Randy Ruiz, who trails Rizzo by about 3,000 votes but still owns a good edge over Memphis' Matt Adams and Omaha's Clint Robinson.

Of course, there's another reason Reno fans may not get all their favorites to Buffalo, as the fan's online vote is worth one-third of the overall voting process when teams are assembled. Still, with the Aces in first place, the team could be sending quite a few representatives to Buffalo when the host International League takes the field on July 11.

Las Vegas catcher Travis d'Arnaud owns a healthy lead over Reno's Konrad Schmidt, and Sacramento's Brandon Moss tops Omaha's Max Ramirez as PCL's designated hitter; Moss and Ramirez currently rank No. 2 and 3 overall in votes, with Ramirez currently out of luck.

The host Buffalo Bisons have rivaled the Aces in fan voting and currently have five players in the lead at their positions, including starter Matt Harvey, shortstop Omar Quintanilla, reliever Fernando Cabrera, outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo and designated hitter Valentino Pascucci.

Columbus' Matt LaPorta remains the No. 1 vote-getter on the ballot, joining Syracuse's Corey Brown in the IL outfield. Other IL leaders currently include Lehigh Valley first baseman Cody Overbeck and starter Tyler Cloyd, Pawtucket second baseman Pedro Ciriaco catcher Ryan Lavarnway, Toledo reliever Chris Bootcheck and Columbus third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall.

There are some close margins in the IL where Quintanilla lead over Pawtucket's Jose Iglesias, Overbeck's lead over ex-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre first baseman Steve Pearce, and Pascucci's lead over Toledo slugger Brad Eldred (the latter of whom leads the IL with 24 homers) are each by the slimmest of margins. On the PCL side, Oklahoma City first baseman Mike Hessman hasn't gotten any love (he ranks No. 12 in voting at his position) despite his 18 homers ranking second in the league behind Rizzo.

Voting, which is being held exclusively on MiLB.com, ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 22. The fan vote will count for one-third (33 percent) of a player's total and will be added to the votes of media (33 percent) and Triple-A Field/General Managers (33 percent) to select the starting players.
