Aces Downed by Fresno, 5-2

April 21, 2012
FRESNO, Calif.– Ryan Wheeler collected three hits and drove in a run, but the Reno Aces fell to the Fresno Grizzlies in the series finale Friday night, 5-2, at Chukchansi Park.

The Aces trailed 5-0 through eight frames, before finally breaking up the shutout bid in the ninth thanks to run-scoring singles for Wheeler and Evan Frey. That cut the deficit to three, but Reno would get no closer.

Aces starter Barry Enright exited after just one inning after being struck in the ankle by a comebacker. From there, Reno used five relievers over the next seven frames. Mike DeMark (0-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs-two earned-on four hits over two innings of work.

The win went to former Aces pitcher and Grizzlies starter Travis Blackley (2-0), who dealt 7.0 shutout frames.

At the dish for Reno, Wheeler led the way with a double and a pair of singles. Adam Eaton added two hits out of the lead-off spot.

The Aces now head home to kick-off a four-game set against the Sacramento River Cats. In Saturday's opener, RHP Chris Jakubauskas (1-2, 4.08 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Sacramento will counter with RHP Jarrod Parker (1-0, 2.50 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT, and the game will feature a 2011 Division Championship Pennant Giveaway, thanks to KOLO 8 News Now.
