Aces Rally for 13-3 Win Over River Cats

May 26, 2012
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Reno took a two-run deficit into the seventh inning Friday night, but the Aces offense exploded for 12 runs over the game's final three innings to capture a 13-3 victory over the Sacramento River Cats in the series opener at Raley Field.

The Aces opened the scoring with a run in the first, but they'd go silent after that for the next five frames. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, though, Reno pushed across two runs to tie the game at three. In the eighth, the Aces scored six runs on two hits to take a commanding lead that was never seriously threatened.

Reno starter Charles Brewer took a no decision, but kept the Aces in the game, scattering three runs on five hits over six innings of work. Zach Kroenke (4-1) earned the victory, tossing three innings of scoreless relief.

The loss fell to River Cats reliever Rich Thompson (1-1), who allowed four runs in the eighth on one hit and three walks.

At the plate for Reno, Adam Eaton pushed his batting average back over .400 with four hits and four runs scored. A.J. Pollock singled three times and stole two bases, and Ryan Wheeler drove in five runs.

The Aces and River Cats hit the second leg of this four-game set on Saturday night at Raley Field. LHP Patrick Corbin (0-0, No ERA) makes his Aces debut, while Sacramento will counter with RHP Bruce Billings (3-1, 3.15 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.

The Aces return home on May 29 for a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
