Adams makes stellar Double-A debut

Indians prospect Austin Adams got his season off to a spectacular start Sunday.

Adams allowed two hits and struck out six over six innings in his Double-A debut, pitching the Akron Aeros to a 1-0 victory over the Binghamton Mets.

A 2009 fifth-round Draft pick, Adams' stock rose after he went 8-5 with a 2.49 ERA in 26 games with Class A Lake County and Class A Advanced Kinston. He struck out 112 and walked 36 over 112 innings.

Making his first Eastern League start, Adams struck out two in the first inning and did not allow a baserunner until the Kai Gronauer singled up the middle with two outs in the third.

The 24-year-old righty gave up another two-out hit in the fourth and issued his only free pass with two outs in the fifth, but he allowed just one B-Met to reach second base. He fanned the first two batters of the sixth and ended his day by retiring Josh Satin on a grounder to shortstop

Adams was replaced by former first-round pick Nick Hagadone, who worked around a hit over two innings in his second appearance of the season. Cory Burns struck out the side in the ninth to notch his second save in as many chances.

Rehabbing Indians infielder Jason Donald went 1-for-3 in his season debut, while Chun-Hsiu Chen had two hits and scored the game's lone run.
