FORT MYERS, FL (June 4, 2012) - The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle outfielder Oswaldo Arcia has been named Player of the Week for May 28 - June 3, 2012. Arcia is the third Miracle outfielder honored by the league joining Lance Ray and Angel Morales from earlier this season.
The 21-year old capped off an incredible week with his seventh home run (second in as many games) of the season, yesterday in a 4-0 victory over Daytona. For the week, he collected 12 hits in 21 plate appearances for a .571 batting average and hit three home runs and drove in seven runs.
The fourth-year professional is on an eight-game hitting streak and during that stretch is 15-for-28 at the plate (.536). He is currently hitting .330 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
Since April, when Arcia hit only .239, he his hitting .381 in 30 games since the calendar flipped to May. In the first three games of June, he is 6-for-9 with 6 RBI's.
Arica has appeared in 298 minor league games and has a career average of .314 with 43 home runs and 190 RBI.
A native of Cantaura-Anzoategui, Venezuela, he is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization by Baseball America, entering the 2012 season and is a member of the Twins 40-man roster.
The Pitcher of the week was Clearwater Threshers Left-hander Jesse Biddle. He started two games and recorded one win. He had a 0.64 ERA and in 14 innings pitched he allowed eight hits, two runs, one earned run and issued three walks while striking out 21 batters. Jesse is in his third year of professional baseball and resides in Philadelphia, PA.
The Miracle host Daytona tonight at 7:05 p.m., before embarking on a seven-game road trip.
