Arvest Ballpark crowd breaks kazoo record

Ensemble of 3,000 harmonize 'Take me out to the Ballgame'
August 14, 2009
SPRINGDALE, AR- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals and 3,000 of their most dedicated fans helped to set a new world record on Friday night at Arvest Ballpark for the most people playing a kazoo ensemble.

3,000 kazoos were distributed to the crowd of 6,071 (paid attendance) at Friday evening's game against the Midland RockHounds and they hummed harmoniously to the tune of "Take me out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch.

There have been several previous attempts at this record, some successful, some unsuccessful, and others not certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. The current record for world's largest kazoo ensemble according to Guinness is 2,679 people, set December 31st, 2006 on the Main Street Bridge in Rochester, NY.

At least two baseball teams have attempted to break this record in the past several seasons, the most recent being an attempt last season by the Bowie Baysox, the Baltimore Orioles' Double-A affiliate in the Eastern League. They fell short when their crowd fell short of the 2,679 people that accomplished the feat in 2006.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. The Naturals have a toll-free ticket hotline (1-877-444-2637) for fans to purchase Naturals tickets.
