Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros defeated the Bluefield Blue Jays, 5-2, in their season finale game at Pioneer Park on Tuesday night. With the win, the Astros finished the 2012 season with a record of 36-32, the club's best record since their inaugural season in Greeneville in 2004. In addition, the Astros finished the season leading the Appalachian League in attendance for the ninth consecutive season.

Prior to the game, Astros' second baseman Brian Blasik, who was named to the Appalachian League All Star team last week, was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Blasik finished among the league leaders with a .318 batting average, 69 hits and 43 RBI on the season.

Meanwhile, outfielder Jose Monzon was named the recipient of the Oscar Padron Award. Each year, the award is given to an Astros player who not only excelled on the field, but is considered to be a leader in the clubhouse and an outstanding all-around person with great character off the field.

Once the game began, the Astros came out ready to play. Blasik showed why he was named team MVP when he gave the Astros a 1-0 lead with a RBI-single. Then, Michael Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to score Angel Ibanez and put Greeneville up 2-0 at the end of the first inning.

The Astros kept it going in the second inning when Ibanez hit a RBI-single. Then, in the third inning, Rio Ruiz hit a RBI-triple and Ernesto Genoves followed with a RBI-single to give the Astros a 5-0 lead.

Bluefield scored a couple of runs in the eighth inning on a Jordan Leyland RBI-double and a ground out, but the Astros maintained their lead to win their final game of the season, 5-2.

Greeneville's Michael Feliz gave up no runs on three hits over five innings with five strikeouts as he earned the win. Jordan Jankowski pitched 1.1 hitless innings with three strikeouts as he earned his fourth save of the season.
