Banwart Torches Missions

April 24, 2009
As the "Jeopardy" host says, this is the time when the "...values double and the scores can really change." Beginning with Thursday night's game, the Rockhounds play their next 32 contests against their three South Division rivals.

The 'Hounds got "off the bus and on the board" in the opener of a 4-game series in San Antonio, building a 9-0 lead and defeating the Missions, 9-3, at Nelson Wolff Stadium.

Danny Putnam crushed a solo home run to make the score 2-0, and Tommy Everidge drove in two of his three RBI with a fifth inning single as the 'Hounds pushed the lead to 5-0. Chris Carter's ninth inning double gave the 'Hounds first baseman his 18th and 19th RBI of the season.

Travis Banwart went the first 5.2 innings, allowing no runs and just three hits, earning the win. The Missions didn't get on the scoreboard until the ninth, and the three-run rally wasn't nearly enough.

The RockHounds lead Corpus Christi by one game ... Frisco by two and San Antonio by three as Alex Trebek time begins. The series at San Antonio continues through Sunday.

The RockHounds return to Citibank Ballpark Monday (April 27) to open an 8-game home stand, hosting the Corpus Christi Hooks and San Antonio Missions in a pair of 4-game series.

The RockHounds' new radio home is Jack-FM (102.1-FM). RockHounds broadcasts are also available online. Look for the link to Jack-FM on the RockHounds' web site ... then click "Jack On The Box." Air time Friday and Saturday at San Antonio is 6:50 p.m., and 3:50 on Sunday afternoon.
