Mesa 19, Salt River 8
Power continued to be the name of the game in the Arizona Fall League, and Addison Barger added on with two home runs for Salt River in its 19-8 loss to Mesa. Toronto’s 13th-ranked prospect collected two of the Rafters’ four hits and drove in five of the team’s eight runs, starting with a three-run jack in the bottom of the first that traveled 410 feet to right-center field. His second dinger of the day was even more impressive, traveling 436 feet. Though Barger fueled the Salt River offense, it was not enough to overcome Mesa’s outburst. Every Solar Sox starter collected at least one hit and six players recorded multihit contests during the team’s 20-hit afternoon. Tyler Hardman was the catalyst, notching four hits, driving in three runs and scoring five. T.J. Rumfield also plated three runs for Mesa. More »

Peoria 6, Scottsdale 5
Thanks to a Brandon McIlwain game-winning single in the top of the ninth, the Javelinas remain the only undefeated team in the AFL with a 6-5 win over the Scorpions. The Mets farmhand took advantage of a leadoff single from Connor Kokx and plated him with a base knock to right field to put Peoria ahead for good. Catcher David Fry got the Javelinas right back in the game with a two-run dinger in the seventh to cut the deficit to one. For the Scorpions, third-ranked Giants prospect Luis Matos went yard and plated four runs for the second straight day, while No. 9 Orioles prospect Heston Kjerstad doubled and delivered a run-scoring single, giving him five RBIs. Surprise 6, Glendale 5
The Desert Dogs and the Saguaros played a close one, but in the end, Glendale couldn’t overcome a Surprise offense that logged 10 hits to the Desert Dogs’ four. A trio of prospects -- top Pirates prospect Henry Davis, No. 5 Phillies prospect Johan Rojas and the Astros’ Will Wagner -- each recorded two hits in the contest. Davis drove in two runs on a double and a sacrifice fly while Wagner drew a bases-loaded walk and singled to notch two RBIs. Rojas showed off his 70-grade speed on a go-ahead hit in the third, stretching a well-struck knock to center into a double. For Glendale, fifth-ranked Reds prospect Matt McLain reached base three times and drove in a run. He was the only Desert Dog with a multihit effort. More »
