BayBear Bats Cooled by Smokies

May 26, 2012
The Mobile BayBears had their three game win streak snapped by the Tennessee Smokies Friday night, losing 4-3 at Hank Aaron Stadium. Mobile was held to just two hits over nine innings in the loss. The Smokies tallied four runs on eight hits. With Friday's loss, coupled by a Montgomery Biscuits win, the BayBears lead over the Biscuits for first place in the Southern League standings sits at 2.5 games.

Jae-Hoon Ha put the Smokies on the board with a leadoff home run in the first at-bat of the game. The Smokies scored again in the second inning to stretch the lead to two. In the bottom of the inning, the BayBears evened the score when Alfredo Marte drilled a two run home run that scored March Krauss who had led off the frame with a walk. Marte's home run would be the last hit for Mobile until the ninth inning when Evan Frye tripled and later scored the BayBears third and final run.

Right-handed pitcher Gaby Hernandez made his first start for the BayBears. Hernandez was dealt the loss after pitching five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven. Lefty Eric Jokisch earned his first win as a pitcher for the Smokies. Jokisch allowed just two runs on one hit over five full innings of work.

The Smokies and BayBears conclud the five game series Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. LHP Tyler Skaggs (1-3) will take the mound for Mobile.
