BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 13, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, were kept off the board in a 7-0 loss to the Birmingham Barons in the series finale Tuesday night at Regions Field.
Mobile (28-37) mustered just two infield singles and two walks against Jordan Guerrero (2-7). Guerrero went the distance, tossing the second complete-game shutout for Birmingham (24-40) in the series. He threw 100 pitches, 68 strikes, and struck out four in his second win of the season.
After three scoreless frames, Nick Basto got the Barons on the board in the fourth with a two-run homer off the foul pole in left field. It was Basto's team-high 10th home run. Birmingham doubled its lead the following inning, added another run in the sixth, and tallied two more in the eighth.
Grayson Long (3-5) gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits in five innings pitched. He faced one batter in the sixth inning, before Abel De Los Santos entered and got six straight outs in relief.
The BayBears begin a five-game home series against the Biloxi Shuckers Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Jake Jewell (3-4, 4.17 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Aaron Wilkerson (5-2, 3.36 ERA) for the Shuckers.
