MOBILE, Ala. (June 9, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, plated a pair of runs in the ninth to force extra innings but fell to the Jackson Generals 6-4 in 10 innings Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Michael Barash , who hit a game-tying solo home run in the second, came through with the BayBears (34-27) trailing 4-2 in the ninth. Barash drove in Brennon Lund and Jose Rojas with a double to left-center field.
However, Jamie Westbrook lifted the Generals (34-28) to victory in extras. Following a go-ahead home run in the eighth, Westbrook hit another one off Matt Custred (1-3) in the 10th to give Jackson a 6-4 lead. The former BayBear drove in four of the six runs for the Generals.
After blowing the save in the ninth, former BayBear Yoan López (2-4) struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th to earn the win.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Luis Pena gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts in a five-inning start. Joel Payamps recorded a quality start, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings pitched.
