JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 28, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were held hitless for six innings but broke through with two runs in the seventh to win the series opener 2-1 against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Jeremy Beasley (2-3) tossed a season-high six scoreless innings and gave up just three hits in his first quality start. Beasley has allowed just two runs over his last three starts, spanning 16 innings, since a loss to Jacksonville on May 10.
Jack Kruger got the first Mobile hit off Jorge Guzman (1-6), a leadoff single in the seventh. Bo Way followed with an RBI triple and scored on a Jhoan Urena single.
The two runs proved to be enough, as Jacksonville (19-32) stranded six runners in scoring position. The Jumbo Shrimp plated an unearned run but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Clark recorded the final four outs to earn his fifth save. The BayBears (20-30) improved to 14-of-16 in save situations, the best mark in the Southern League.
