JACKSON, Tenn. (August 4, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, trimmed an early four-run deficit down to one but fell 7-4 to the Jackson Generals Sunday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
Brandon Marsh went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in the third, as the BayBears (41-70 overall, 14-29 second half) attempted to stage a comeback. Jahmai Jones plated a run with a fielder's choice in the fourth to make the score 4-3 Jackson.
However, the Generals (64-47, 25-16) used a four-run first inning against Oliver Ortega (0-1) and a three-run fourth to pull away. The BayBears scored just one additional run on a Julian Leon homer in the sixth, his fourth of the season.
J.B. Bukauskas struck out eight batters in his Diamondbacks organization debut but departed after just 3 1/3 innings. Kevin McCanna (4-5) allowed just one hit, the Leon home run, in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Miguel Aguilar worked around a pair of singles in the ninth to record his third save. Jackson pitchers struck out the side in four of the nine innings and tallied a total of 19 strikeouts in the game.
Luis Pena was a bright spot out of the Mobile bullpen. He tossed three scoreless, hitless innings and retired nine of 11 batters.
