BILOXI, Miss. (August 14, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, split a doubleheader against the Biloxi Shuckers Tuesday night at MGM Park, dropping the first game 4-3 and winning the second game 4-1.
GAME ONE:
The BayBears had an early two-run lead, but Biloxi tied the game in the fourth inning and walked off with an extra-inning win in the eighth.
Brandon Sandoval drove in a pair of runs with a single in the second inning to give Mobile a 2-0 advantage. The BayBears added another run on a Zach Gibbons RBI triple in the third.
However, Trent Grisham drove in three runs for Biloxi with a 3-for-4 game, finishing just a triple shy of the cycle. He plated the game-winning run with a double off Ryan Clark (2-3) in the bottom of the eighth.
Jon Olczak (7-3) earned the win, holding the BayBears scoreless in the top of the eighth.
GAME TWO:
The BayBears (60-58 overall, 23-27 second half) grabbed another early lead and held on this time, defeating the Shuckers (68-53, 27-24) 4-1.
Zach Houchins hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Gibbons added a pair of RBIs with two doubles. Gibbons finished with four hits, three for extra bases, and three RBIs in the doubleheader.
Matt Ball (1-0) earned the win in his Double-A debut, allowing just one run on four hits in five innings pitched. He retired the first eight batters of the game before a two-out double in the third.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Biloxi Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley (2-3, 2.87 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Mobile.
