BayBears win league title after 1-0 win

Mobile wins second straight Southern League ttitle

MOBILE, ALA. (SEPTEMBER 14, 2012) - The Generals were blanked, 1-0 on Friday night by the Mobile BayBears in game four of the Southern League Championship Series, ending the 2012 campaign. Mobile won three straight to end the series, 3-1. The BayBears won their second straight Southern League title and fourth in franchise history. The Generals were held to just three hits Friday

Mobile scored their lone run in the third inning on a leadoff solo homerun by Jonathan Griffin.

That homer was the only blemish for Generals pitching Friday night. Starter Anthony Fernandez allowed a run on 3 hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Fernandez struck out 3 and walked 2. It was Fernandez' longest outing since July 28th when he pitched 7.0 innings.

Relievers Forrest Snow, Mauricio Robles and Yoervis Medina combined for 2.2 scoreless innings behind Fernandez.

Mobile starter Michael Bolsinger (2-0) picked up the clinching win for the BayBears. He tossed 7.0 shutout innings and allowed just 3 hits. Relievers Eury De La Rosa and Beu Schultz combined for the final two innings. Schultz earned the save.

Mobile outfielder Alfredo Marte was the only player with a multi-hit game Friday. He was 2-for-4, with a double.

The Generals finished second in the Southern League for the third time and the lone title remains 2000. The 79 regular season wins during the regular season was the third-most in franchise history and best since 2005. Jackson opens the 2013 season on the road in Jacksonville, Fla, against the Suns on April 4th.
