The Bowie Baysox unveiled a new alternate logo during the team's Free Family FunFest Saturday. The logo features a teal fish throwing a baseball. The team will wear black jerseys featuring the new logo every Friday night this season.
Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross unveiled the logo during a special ceremony Saturday. "Our new 'Pitching Fish' logo solidifies our ties to the Chesapeake Bay," Shallcross said. "The Bay is such an integral component of Maryland's commercial and recreational appeal, we felt like this was a great way strengthen our tie to it."
The fish is a combination of the rockfish or striped bass and the Oyster toadfish. Those two species were selected because both thrive in a healthy Bay. In conjunction with the new logo, the Baysox have partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Trust to help raise funds for the independent, nonprofit grant-making organization.
