Bees take game one of twinbill

April 17, 2012
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Drew Granier pitched a complete game and the Burlington Bees offense put together a pair of rallies to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-1 in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday evening at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Grainer struck out seven and allowed four hits for his second win of the season.

Jason Rogers reached base on a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rogers was the first Rattler to reach base against Granier. Rogers has reached base on either a hit or a walk in each of the first 11 games of the season for Wisconsin.

The Bees (6-5) broke the scoreless tie with three runs off Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller in the fifth. Nick Rickles singled with one out. Royce Consigli's perfectly placed hit-and-run single put runners on the corners. Aaron Shipman was next and his single to right scored Rickles for a 1-0 lead.

Later in the fifth, BA Vollmuth doubled to left-center to send in two runs and the Bees were up 3-0.

Greg Hopkins started the Rattlers (5-6) in their half of the fifth inning with a bunt single. An error on the play moved him to second base. Rafael Neda singled to send Hopkins to third base. Carlos George knocked in Hopkins with a sacrifice fly and cut Burlington's lead to 3-1.

Rickles and Consigli struck again in the top of the seventh. Rickles singled to start the frame. A wild pitch moved him to second base. Then, Consigli tripled to score for a 4-1 Burlington lead.

Stephen Peterson relieved Miller and got the next batter, but an RBI double by Sean Jamieson gave the Bees a 5-1 lead.

Granier allowed a one out single to Neda in the bottom of the seventh, but got a game ending double play to move his record to 2-0.
