June 18, 2010

ANDERSON 'S GEM GIVES IRONBIRDS OPENING NIGHT WIN

Aberdeen, MD - In front of a crowd of 6,671 the Aberdeen IronBirds (1-0) combined great pitching and hitting to top the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1) 5-2.

The IronBirds pounded out 11 hits, six of which went for extra bases. Aberdeen's offensive attack began in the second inning when Tyler Kolodny started things off with a double over the head of the leftfielder Brian Bryles.  Then Kipp Schutz singled him over to third base and after a strikeout, David Anderson knocked in the first run of the IronBirds 2010 season on a single to left field.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Renegades got their first hit and run of the ball game on the same play, a solo home run off the bat of Robby Price to tie things up at one.

The IronBirds wasted no time answering back.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, the IronBirds scored four runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead.  Schutz and Jeremy Nowak hit back-to-back RBI triples and Adam Gaylord added an RBI double in the inning.

Justin Anderson threw six innings of one hit, one run baseball for the IronBirds.  The lone hit of the night against him was a solo home run.  Anderson is now 1-0 on the season.

The losing pitcher was reliever, Miguel Sierra who threw just 1.1 innings and gave up four runs on five hits.

Tomorrow's game is a 7:05 start and righty Scott Copeland will be going against the Renegades lefty Julius Dettrich.
