Bisons Hot Stove Luncheon - Jan. 22

Mets' Minaya, Collins to speak
January 5, 2010
The Buffalo Bisons today announced that Mets' Executive Vice President and General Manager Omar Minaya and newly-appointed Mets Minor League Field Coordinator Terry Collins will both speak at the team's annual Hot Stove Luncheon on Friday, January 22nd (12:00 p.m.) at the Adam's Mark Hotel.

The Hot Stove Luncheon will begin at 12:00 p.m. with doors to the Adam's Mark Grand Ballroom opening at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 each and are available by calling (716) 846-2011. Fans are asked to RSVP by Friday, January 15.

Minaya is entering his sixth season as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the New York Mets after being named to the post on September 30, 2004. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as Vice President/General Manager of the Montreal Expos, becoming baseball's first Hispanic General Manager. Minaya also spent roughly four years with the Mets from 1998-2002 as an assistant general manager.

Minaya was a 14th round selection in the 1978 draft by the Oakland A's. He played two seasons in the Athletics' and Seattle Mariners' minor league systems as an outfielder before playing two seasons in Italy.

Hired last November by New York, Collins, who is in his 40th season in professional baseball, will oversee all on-field aspects of the Mets Minor League Spring Training, Mini-Camps and Instructional League. In addition, he will be involved in all phases of minor league on-field operations, including instruction, discipline as well as player and staff evaluations.

Collins managed the Bisons form 1989-1991 and was 246-186 during his time with the club. The .569 winning percentage is the 8th highest in the 124-year history of the Buffalo Bisons. Collins won 80 games in each of his three years on the bench and took the Herd to the American Association playoffs in 1991. In 1992, Collins was inducted into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame.
