BIZARRE FINALE ENDS WITH A WALK-OFF

Keys End Five-Game Skid after SS Pedro Florimon is Hit by a Pitch to End the Contest
August 29, 2010
In a wild game at Harry Grove Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Keys won 7-6 in walk-off fashion. With the bases loaded in the ninth, Pedro Florimon was hit by a Joe Testa pitch and Ronnie Welty trotted home as the game winning run. With the victory, the Keys ended a five game losing streak. The win was also the first time Frederick beat Potomac at Harry Grove Stadium since May 19.

Frederick and Potomac traded a pair of home runs in the first inning to make the score one all entering the second. The top of the second inning was when things turned a bit odd. 3B Dan Lyons struck out looking against RHP Kenny Moreland and was not happy with the call. Manager Gary Cathcart came to the defense of his player and was ejected from the game. The Nationals did respond to the ejection well as the next batter up, 2B Sean Nicol, singled home LF Jamar Walton to give them a 2-1 lead. The Keys tied the game back up in the second as Sunday's affair turned into a seesaw contest.

The Nationals scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning to take the lead back. With men on second and third, Sean Nicol hit a groundball that Kenny Moreland fielded. Moreland ran at Jose Lozada at third and then tossed the ball to Billy Rowell. Rowell dropped the ball and Lozada scored to give Potomac the lead back. The P-Nats scored two more runs off Moreland to make the game 5-2 entering the bottom of the fourth.

Rowell atoned for his error in the bottom of the inning as he belted his 11th home run of the season to leadoff the fourth. The Keys added another run in the inning on a RBI double by 1B Tyler Townsend but left the bases loaded to end the inning. The Keys regained the lead in the fifth when two runs scored on sac flies from Miguel Abreu and Pedro Florimon.

Potomac tied up the game in the seventh inning on a RBI double by Tyler Moore.

Neither team scored in the eighth to set the stage for quite the dramatic finish in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded and one out, LHP Joe Testa struck out 1B Tyler Townsend to bring SS Pedro Florimon to the dish. After falling behind in the count, Testa plunked Florimon to end the game.

LHP Will Startup picked up the win for Frederick after he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Startup was received from Class-A Delmarva earlier today. RHP Kenny Moreland got a no-decision after allowing five runs, two earned, on eight hits over five innings of work.

OF Kyle Hudson left the game in the top of the fifth inning with an injury after robbing a home run from 1B Tyler Moore.

Frederick has Monday off before they welcome in the Kinston Indians for a four-game series. RHP Ryan O'Shea (7-7, 3.66) will start for the Keys while RHP Marty Popham (3-4, 4.65) gets the nod for the K-Tribe. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium.

Tuesday night is the First Annual College Fair at Harry Grove Stadium. Any high school student in Frederick County can receive a free ticket by going to their Counselor's office.
