Bowker Named PCL Player Of The Week

Outfielder Homered Four Times During The Seven-Game Span
June 21, 2010
FRESNO, CA - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Fresno Grizzlies outfielder John Bowker has been honored as PCL Player of the Week for June 14th-20th. Bowker is the second Grizzlies player selected by the league in 2010, joining Brett Pill, who took home the weekly award for his performance May 3rd-9th.

Bowker, 26, batted .360 (9-for-25) with three walks, three doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored and eight RBI over the seven-game span. The Giants' third-round pick out of Long Beach State in 2004 also slugged .960 for the week. After starting the season with the Giants, last year's PCL batting champion is hitting .373 with five doubles, six home runs and 17 RBI in just 14 games since joining the Grizzlies.

Bowker was also involved in a pair of back-to-back home runs during the past week, both times leading off the bottom of the seventh inning. On Wednesday, June 16th he followed Matt Downs' solo blast with a shot of his own off Portland Beavers reliever Greg Burke. Just four days later, Bowker led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run down the line in right, only to have Pill follow with a roundtripper to left on the very next pitch off of Reno Aces starter Matt Torra.

The first-place Grizzlies wrap up their eight-game homestand tonight against Reno at 7:05pm and will return home on Saturday, June 26 at 7:05pm for "Twilight Night" at Chukchansi Park. Tickets for any Grizzlies home game are available now at the Chukchansi Park Box Office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
