Brawl mars Redbirds-Isotopes game

The Albuquerque Isotopes promised fans postgame fireworks Saturday night, but nobody expected such a colorful display during their game against the Memphis Redbirds.

The Pacific Coast League slugfest featured 10 ejections before the Isotopes defeated Memphis, 13-10.

Each team was warned after Cardinals No. 9 prospect Maikel Cleto hit Jeremy Moore with a pitch to start the third inning and both benches cleared. Facing Jorge Rondon in the next frame, Moore swatted a three-run homer. The next Isotopes hitter, Justin Sellers, appeared to get grazed on the top of the shoulders with a 1-0 pitch, although umpires ruled it missed him.

Again, both benches emptied, with the bullpens joining the fray. Punches were thrown in a large scrum along the first-base side of the pitcher's mound and it took nearly a half-hour to restore order.

Memphis manager Pop Warner, Rondon, catcher Rob Johnson and pitcher Mitchell Boggs -- who did not play in the game -- were all ejected. The Isotopes lost skipper Lorenzo Bundy, Sellers, Moore, Dee Gordon, Aaron Laffey and Rusty Ryal. Neither Laffey nor Ryal played.

Rob Rasmussen, the Dodgers' No. 20 prospect pitched four innings in his second start for Albuquerque and gave up six runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out four.

Cleto surrendered seven runs on four hits and eight walks while fanning two over three innings. Brock Peterson homered twice and collected four RBIs in the loss.
