Bruce Leads Bats Past Red Wings

Sarasota, FL - Jay Bruce hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Louisville Bats to a 4-3 victory over the Rochester Red Wings in spring training exhibition play on Monday.

Jesse Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as well for the victorious Bats who moved to 2-1 in exhibition play this year. Joey Votto and Earl Snyder each went 1-for-4 with an RBI for Louisville.

Dustin Hermanson started for Louisville, going two innings of work, striking out two. Gary Majewski threw one inning of relief, allowing two runs on three hits. Homer Bailey, appearing in his first game since being reassigned to minor league camp, went three innings, allowing one run while striking out two. Mike Gosling also pitched three innings of relief, striking out five.

Louisville will take on the Norfolk Tides, Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, at Twin Lakes Park in Sarasota on Tuesday.
