FSL All-Star righty traded straight up for versatile fellow 23-year-old
February 5, 2015

Neither the Pirates nor the Braves have been shy about making swaps involving prospects lately, and on Thursday, the two clubs finalized their latest trade with each other.

Pittsburgh sent right-handed reliever Bryton Trepagnier, a midseason All-Star in the Class A Advanced Florida State League last year, to Atlanta for Edward Salcedo, who primarily played third base and right field at Triple-A Gwinnett in 2014. Both are 23 years old.

Trepagnier, a 2010 41st-round pick, went 4-1 with a 2.53 ERA and nine saves in 10 chances across 38 outings at Bradenton last season. Over 53 1/3 innings, he fanned 40 and walked 33 with a .190 average against and a 1.26 WHIP.

Salcedo, a Dominican Republic native, played 110 games in the International League a season ago, batting .212 with a .294 on-base percentage and .357 slugging percentage. He collected 21 doubles, 10 homers and one triple and stole 13 bases in 18 attempts. He was a midseason All-Star at Double-A Mississippi in 2013 as well as an MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2012.

Since 2015 started, the Braves have dealt for Jose Briceno, Chris O'Dowd, Michael Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz, Andrew Thurman, Ricardo Sanchez and Manny Banuelos. The Pirates have traded for Arquimedes Caminero, Steve Lombardozzi, Stephen Tarpley and a player to be named later.
