Bundy could return to Minor Leagues in May

May could mean a Minor League return for the Orioles' No. 2 prospect, Dylan Bundy.

According to the Baltimore Sun, pain in the right-hander's pitching arm is gone, just over six months after he underwent Tommy John surgery.

"I really like the way his rehab is going," Orioles manager Buck Showalter told the newspaper. "I think, looking back on it, it might be the best thing that's ever happened to him, all things considered."

The 21-year-old began throwing from 120 feet and, if all goes well, will be throwing off the mound next month; Bundy, however, called his recovery a "day-to-day" situation.

The fourth overall pick in the 2011 Draft made his Major League debut in 2012, allowing one hit in 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the Orioles. As for when he will return to the the big leagues, it could be as soon as June.

"In other words, they are saying this is when he'd be an option again for us," Showalter told MLB.com.

That means Bundy could begin a Minor League assignment in May, probably with Class A Advanced Frederick.

Before getting his callup, MLB.com's No. 20 overall prospect spent time in 2012 with Class A Delmarva, Frederick and Double-A Bowie, going 9-3 with a 2.08 ERA and 119 strikeouts over 103 2/3 innings.
