Butler, Miley to helm Triple-A All-Stars

Reno, Scranton/WB skippers set for July 17 showdown
June 20, 2013

Brett Butler, manager of the defending Triple-A National Champion Reno Aces, and Dave Miley, manager of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and reigning IL Manager of the Year, have been named managers of their respective league's All-Star teams for the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game. The 26th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will take place at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada on Wednesday, July 17 at 6:05 p.m. PDT and will be broadcast live on the MLB Network.

Brett Butler is in his fifth season as skipper in Reno (306-268) and his ninth season overall in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Last year, Butler led his Aces to the PCL Championship and the Gildan Triple-A National Championship with an 81-63 record. This marks the first-ever Triple-A All-Star game appearance for the former MLB center fielder and National League All-Star.

Pat Rice, pitching coach of the Fresno Grizzlies, and Damon Minor, hitting coach of the New Orleans Zephyrs, fill out the Pacific Coast League All-Star coaching staff. Rice is in his fifth consecutive season as the Grizzlies' pitching coach and sixth campaign overall in the San Francisco Giants organization. In 2012, 12 Grizzlies pitchers made appearances for both the Grizzlies and Giants, nine of which started their seasons in Fresno. Minor is in his third season on the Zephyrs staff. In 2012, under Minor's instruction, New Orleans set a franchise record by hitting 153 home runs.

Dave Miley will participate in his third Triple-A All-Star Game (Louisville, 2002; Scranton/WB, 2008) as manager, matching Rick Sweet with the most appearances as a skipper in the 26-year history of the event. In 2012, Miley received his second (2007) career IL Manager of the Year award and the Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year honor for his role in leading Scranton/WB to their fifth North Division crown in six years despite not playing a single game in their home ballpark, PNC Field, due to extensive renovations.

Serving as coaches on Miley's All-Star staff are Charlotte Knights manager Joel Skinner and Knights hitting coach Brandon Moore. In his second year with Charlotte, Skinner gets an All-Star bid after leading the Knights to the second-highest win total (84) in franchise history in 2012. Moore is in his first year as hitting coach in Charlotte after spending the 2012 season in Double-A Birmingham in the same capacity.

The athletic trainer for the PCL All-Star squad is Joe Metz, who is in his second season in Reno and fifth season in the Diamondbacks organization. For the International League, Mark Shires will serve as the athletic trainer. Shires is in his seventh season with the Norfolk Tides and 14th overall in the Orioles system.
