Captains Take a 1-0 Series Lead

(Eastlake, OH) - Jerrud Sabourin had three hits and Francisco Lindor knocked in a pair as The Lake County Captains defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 5-4 at Classic Park. With the win, Lake County takes a 1-0 lead in the best of three quarter final playoff series.

Bowling Green got a run on the board in the first inning. Jake Hager singled and reached second on an error. Drew Vettleson bunted for a singe to put runners on first and third base. Todd Glaesmann walked to load the bases. Jeff Malm struck out and then Alejandro Segovia hit a groundball to third base, the Captains tried to turn two but the relay throw to first was late and the score was 1-0 Hot Rods.

Lake County answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jerrud Sabourin singled Lindor home and the ball game was tied at 1-1.

In the second inning, Alex Lavisky singled to right field and was doubled to third base by Tyler Naquin in his first at bat as a Captain. Jose Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to center field and LAvisky scored giving the Captains a 2-1 lead. 2011 Indians first round pick Francisco Lindor knocked in the 2012 Indians first round pick Tyler Naquin and the Captains led 3-1. Lindor scored on a single by Jordan Smith and the Captains took at 4-1 lead heading to the third inning.

Lake County made it a 5-1 game when Naquin walked and scored moved to third in a single by Jose Ramirez. Francisco Lindor doubled to center field that scored Naquin and Ramirez stopped at third. The score was 5-1 Captains headed to the fourth inning.

Bowling Green scored three runs in the fifth inning to close the gap. With one out, Drew Vettleson singled and Todd Glaesmann doubled him to third base. Jeff Malm flew out to center field for out number two. Alejandro Segovia walked to load the bases. Cameron Seitzer doubled to deep center field. The two bagger cleared the bases, and the score was 5-4 Captains headed to the sixth inning.

RHP Cody Anderson (0-0) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Cody pitched three innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, two walks and two strikeouts. Nick Pasquale (1-0) entered the game for the Captains in the third inning. Pasquale earned the win after twirling five innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Enosil Tejada pitched the ninth to earn the save.

RHP Parker Markel (0-1) got the nod for the Hot Rods and took the loss. Markel pitched two and two thirds innings, allowing nine hits, five earned runs, three walks, and fanned two. Jake Partidge entered in relief and pitched five and one third innings in relief. Partridge allowed three hits, two walks and he struck out six. Partridge did not allow a run in his outing.

Thursday Night, The Captains will travel to Bowling Green Kentucky for game two of the Midwest League Eastern Division Quarter Final. Lake County will send RHP Mason Radeke (7-6, 3.38) to the mound to face LHP Ryan Carpenter (11-8, 4.09) for the Hot Rods. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
