CAST YOUR VOTE IN THE RIVER BANDITS BOBBLE-ELECTION

Iowa fans to be the first in the nation to cast their vote in the Presidential race!
August 5, 2008
On November 4, 2008, American citizens from all across the country will file into voting booths to decide the 44th president of the United States of America. The Quad Cities River Bandits would rather not wait that long.

On August 16, Modern Woodmen Park will feature its own election with a special twist - a "Bobble-Election," in fact. Fans arriving at the 7:00 p.m. game against the Burlington Bees will have a choice upon entering the ballpark. Left or right? Obama or McCain? The River Bandits will be giving away 2,000 bobblehead, 1,000 each in the likeness of the two Presidential candidates. Fans will have the chance to choose which bobblehead they want, thus casting their unofficial vote for the President. The bobblehead that runs out first will serve as the River Bandits fans' endorsement for the Oval Office.

"We always want our fans to feel like they are getting more than just a baseball game when they visit Modern Woodmen Park, and giveaways like this are a perfect example," said team owner Dave Heller. "Bobblehead dolls are always a popular item and having the two Presidential candidates immortalized as bobbleheads will give our fans one of the most unique giveaway items in all of Minor League Baseball. Besids, this is Iowa so what better place to have the nation's first true Presidential straw poll? As a key swing state in the upcoming election, I'm sure both campaigns will be watching."

As the River Bandits continue through the final month of the 2008 season, the August 16 ballgame will feature a variety of promotional events to jumpstart a four-game homestand. In addition to the Bobble-Election sponsored by Pepsi and WQAD Newschannel 8, the Saturday night game will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display as well as a live concert in the Party Plaza.

"It's democracy at its finest!" said Vice President/General Manager Kirk Goodman. "This country was founded upon the philosophy that people have the freedom to choose their representation. Well, almost 250 years later, we're putting a little twist on that and giving our fans the opportunity to express their political sentiments by choosing which bobblehead they want to take home. One thing is for sure... there will be no hanging chads or recounts when our polls close!"

UP NEXT: The River Bandits will start a four-game series in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday before returning to Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday, August 9, to host the Clinton LumberKings for a four-game set. Bandit Wear featuring the new team name and logo is currently available by visiting the Modern Woodmen Park team store, and prorated versions of season ticket packages, mini-packages, and the popular You-Pick-10 Plan are on sale at the park or by calling (563) 3-BANDITS!
