Cecchini's five RBIs lead PawSox outburst

In a slugfest in which it seemed every run was going to prove crucial Monday, Garin Cecchni was the biggest beneficiary in the RBI column.

Boston's No. 4 prospect tied a career high with five RBIs, helping Triple-A Pawtucket stave off a late comeback by Gwinnett for a 15-9 International League win.

Cecchini went 3-for-6 with two doubles in the win. The three-hit game was his second in three contests, raising his average this season to .246.

The 2010 fourth-rounder got his first look at the Major Leagues earlier in the season, going 1-for-2 in one game before being sent back down to Triple-A. He's struggled with the PawSox since, batting just .212 in 46 games. In that span, he has just 12 extra-base hits.

Cecchini picked up his first two RBIs in the first inning, dropping a double into right that scored Bryce Brentz and Carlos Rivero. He plated Brentz with another double in the third, this one on a sharp liner into right.

Those RBIs proved handy in building a 9-0 advantage, one just large enough to hold off a late Gwinnett comeback. After plating one run in the bottom of the seventh, the G-Braves strung together eight runs in the eighth to tie the game, 9-9.

The comeback started with a leadoff homer by Elmer Reyes to left field. Todd Cunningham followed with a groundout, then Joey Terdoslavich singled and Christian Bethancourt drove him in with a double to center.

After a flyout to left, Sean Kazmar grounded a single to left that advanced Bethancourt to third. Ozzie Martinez and Edward Salcedo followed with consecutive walks, and then Jose Constanza plated two with a single to center.

Salcedo advanced to third and Constanza to second a batter later when Reyes reached on a fielding error by third baseman Carlos Rivero. Cunningham capped the rally with a two-run single to center and Terdoslavich ended the frame with a swinging strikeout.

Cecchini grounded out to second base to lead off the ninth. Deven Marrero singled into left and Blake Swihart followed with a double to left. Marrero scored on Derrik Gibson's single, and Swihart came around to score on a double by Mookie Betts.

With Gibson at third and Betts at second, the Braves walked Mike McCoy intentionally. Brentz followed with a two-run line-drive single to left for a 13-9 edge.

After Travis Shaw struck out and Carlos Rivero walked, Cecchini dropped in a bloop single to right that scored McCoy and Brentz for the final six-run spread.
