Ceciliani quick on the draw for B-Mets

Mets outfield prospect blasts two, plates four in rout of SeaWolves
July 15, 2014

They say the best things in life are worth the wait. But waiting was not part of Darrell Ceciliani's formula for success for the Mets on Monday.

Taking SeaWolves starter Jeff Ferrell deep on the first pitches of his first and third at-bats, the New York outfield prospect recorded his second multi-homer game of the season en route to Double-A Binghamton's 11-4 rout at Erie.

Ceciliani took Ferrell's first offering of the second inning over the right center-field fence. Then after flying out in the fourth, he took the first pitch he saw in the fifth to deep right for a three-run shot.

The at-bats he did wait -- taking a called strike for the first pitch all three times -- ended with outs.

The center fielder grounded into a forceout in the seventh and struck out in the ninth, but not before notching a few milestones. The 24-year-old plated four for the first time this season and tied a season high with three runs scored. Ceciliani also has had five straight multi-hit games.

After hitting .216 with one homer in May, the Oregon native is averaging .311 with five long balls since to boost his overall average to .279.

In his second stint in the Eastern League, Ceciliani leads his teammates with nine stolen bases in 13 chances.

Mets' fourth-ranked prospect Brandon Nimmo added a two-run homer in the sixth and No. 15 Jayce Boyd collected three hits and two RBIs.

Binghamton start Gabriel Ynoa (2-0) allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out five over 5 2/3 frames. The right-hander slimmed his ERA to 3.50 over three starts since being promoted from Class A Advanced St. Lucie.

Ferrell (6-7) yielded seven runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 frames to suffer his first loss of July.

Ramon Cabrera and Jamie Johnson both belted their fifth homers of the season for Erie. Cabrera plated three runs.
