Chiefs Make First Roster Move

Noble joins roster as Hatley lands on DL
April 19, 2011
The Peoria Chiefs and Chicago Cubs have announced the first Chiefs roster move of the season as catcher Chad Noble joins the team from Advanced-A Daytona of the Florida State League. In a corresponding roster move, reliever Marcus Hatley has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb.

Noble began the season as Daytona's third catcher and appeared in just three games, with two starts in the first two weeks of the season. He was 2-for-8 (.250) with four strikeouts. The 23-year-old Rockwall, TX native was drafted in the 37th round last June out of Northwestern University. Last season he played in 28 games for Mesa in the Arizona Rookie League hitting .206 with one homer, seven doubles and 16 RBI. He threw out 18-of-31 would-be base stealers and committed just three errors. Noble finished the 2010 season with Boise getting a hit in all three starts while driving in two runs with a double. Noble is likely to see some action at first base with the Chiefs as well as he played the position four times with Mesa last season.

Hatley injured the thumb on his throwing hand when he slipped off the mound while throwing a pitch Sunday afternoon in Wisconsin. He stayed in the game and picked up the win as the Chiefs rallied to beat the Timber Rattlers 7-6. In three outings this season, Hatley is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts in four innings. He is holding MWL hitters to a .091 batting average with two walks issued. The 23-year-old California native had his 2009 Chiefs season cut short by an elbow injury in August that eventually required Tommy John surgery. He pitched seven times for the Chiefs last season going 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA while recovering from surgery and working his way back into the rotation.

The Chiefs play a Wednesday doubleheader in Quad Cities at Noon before returning home for a three-game series against Beloit. The homestand kicks off with a 6:30 p.m. game and the second Thirsty Thursday of the season, this one presented by Kelleher's, Miller Lite and Baumgarten Distributing. There will be a pre-game party at Kelleher's Irish Pub & Eatery on Water Street in downtown Peoria starting at 3:00 p.m. Once the gates open at 5:30 p.m. all 16 oz domestic draft beers and fountain sodas are $2.00. Thursday is also Boy Band Night with the best (and worst) music, videos, trivia, dances and costumes that celebrate the most famous, and infamous Boy Bands in pop culture history.

The second game in this upcoming homestand is a 1:00 p.m. start on Friday, April 22 against Beloit. Friday is Going Green Day in celebration of Earth Day and the series ends with another 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday, April 23 with gates opening at 11:30 a.m. All fans eight (8) and under are invited onto the field for an Easter Egg Hunt from 12:10 to 12:30. Fans can enter at the Hy-Vee Hills Lawn Seats. There will be 3,000 Easter Eggs filled with candy, toys and goodies all over the outfield and each child can select up to six eggs. Saturday is also the second annual Salute to Road Construction Day with detours, cones, traffic signs and information from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
