Chien-Ming Wang to make second start in Syracuse

Righty to face Rochester Monday
May 13, 2012
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to start for the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday, May 14 in the team's 12:00 PM game against the Rochester Red Wings at Alliance Bank Stadium. The game will air nationally on MLB Network.

Wang also started for Syracuse on Wednesday, when the right-hander earned a win against the Durham Bulls. He threw eighty-nine pitches over seven innings and allowed only two runs on eight hits. Wang walked one and struck out one.

The Major League veteran is rehabbing after he strained his left hamstring on March 15 in a spring training game. In Wang's three minor league starts this season between Syracuse, Advanced-A Potomac, and Class-A Hagerstown, he's tossed 17 innings and posted a 2.12 ERA. Wang has walked just two batters, while striking out 11.

Wang is 59-29 with a 4.15 ERA in 120 games (115 starts) over his Major League career with the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals. The Taiwanese native pitched for the Yankees from 2005 to 2009 after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2000. The 31-year-old had his best season in 2006 when he compiled a 19-6 record with a 3.63 ERA. Wang led the American League that season with 0.5 home runs allowed per nine innings.

Last season, Wang was 4-3 with a 4.04 ERA in 11 starts for the Nationals in his second season with the team. Wang was signed by Washington in 2010, but missed the entire season due to shoulder surgery.
