Chipper Jones to Play in Rome Saturday and Sunday

July 23, 2011
Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is scheduled to join the Rome Braves tonight to begin a rehabilitation assignment. He is also scheduled to play again Sunday at State Mutual Stadium. Jones had arthroscopic surgery to repair torn meniscus in his right knee July 9th and is hitting .259 with eight homers and 46 RBIs in 77 games this season.

"Chipper is rehabbing his knee and needs to continue to take the right steps to get back to Atlanta," says Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn. "We're glad to provide the team and the field for him."

Jones, who came through the Atlanta Braves minor league system, was named Most Outstanding Major League Prospect of the South Atlantic League in 1991 and was inducted into the SAL Hall of Fame in 2007.
