JetHawks' Rodgers continues to sizzle

There are hot streaks and there is what Brendan Rodgers is doing right now.
The Rockies' top prospect collected three more hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs Friday night to lead Class A Advanced Lancaster to a 7-2 victory over Stockton at The Hangar. 

Rodgers is 15-for-25 with two homers and eight RBIs over his last five games. He has six extra-base hits during that stretch.

"The past couple of weeks have been really good for him because he's seeing the ball well," JetHawks hitting coach Derrick May said. "I've seen a couple of guys on a stretch like this, but he's doing this at 20 years old, so this is really impressive."
After taking a called third strike against A's No. 2 prospectA.J. Puk in his first at-bat, Rodgers got revenge in his second trip with a double to left field in the third inning that extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
"Pitchers know what type of hitter he is and what type of power he has," May said. "But he's been able to lay off the pitcher's pitches and get the pitches he wants to hit. He does damage against both lefties and righties. He's not chasing around the pitcher and doing a great job of controlling the strike zone."
In the fifth, Rodgers again came out on top against Puk (1-4) by driving in a run with his ninth double of the season. He went back to left in the seventh with an RBI single, raising his average to an even .400 through his first 17 games in the California League.
"At this point, you can't really get much better," May said. "It's great to see and to be a part of Brendan doing well. He's a great kid and he comes to play and competes every day, so it's a pleasure to watch him work. He just needs to maintain his strengths and work on the weaknesses he may have -- but you don't see much of them right now."
A hand injury caused Rodgers to sit out the first two weeks of the season, but the Florida native has posted a 1.041 OPS since then, a figure that would rank second in the league if MLB.com's No. 12 overall prospect had enough plate appearances to qualify. 
"You would expect some type of period of adjustment after the injury and coming up to a new level, so maybe I'm a little bit surprised with how he's doing, but he's a pretty good player and he's got great bat speed and a good idea of what he needs to do at the plate," May said.

Rockies No. 19 prospect Garrett Hampson also doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice from the top of the Lancaster lineup. JetHawks starter Craig Schlitter (5-0) became the Cal League's first five-game winner after allowing one run on four hits and three walks over six innings. It was his sixth straight quality start.
Skye Bolt went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, while Chris Iriart homered for Stockton.
