June 2, 2009

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce that OF Tyler Colvin has been added to the active roster as of Sunday, May 31. In a related move, pitcher Jay Jackson has been placed on the disabled list due to a bruised right leg.

Colvin much-anticipated return to Tennessee follows a 32-game stint in 2009 with the High-A Daytona Cubs. He was hitting .250 (28-for-112) with one home run and 10 RBIs. In two games this week with the Smokies, Colvin is 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Colvin hit .256 (138-for-540) with 14 home runs and 80 RBIs last year for Tennessee and is a 2006 first-round selection of the Cubs.

Jackson heads to the DL with a bruised right knee. In nine games with Tennessee this year, Jackson is 3-3 with a 3.35 ERA. He leads the team with 48 strikeouts and has not lost a start since April 24. Jackson was a ninth-round selection by the Cubs in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
